Female Victim Stabbed in Birmingham City Bus Shelter Attack Succumbs to Injuries
The female victim stabbed repeatedly in the neck during a random assault at a bus stop within Birmingham has passed away, authorities verified.
The deceased woman, who was 34, came under attack on Smallbrook Queensway street, just outside the Bullring shopping centre, shortly before 21:00 GMT on Friday, West Midlands Police said.
The suspect, 21, appeared before Birmingham Magistrates Court Monday morning, facing charges for the violent incident.
He was previously accused with attempted murder however after the victim's passing the charge has been updated to include murder.
Law Enforcement Actions
Authorities stated officers would be in the downtown area through Monday providing public assurance, while detectives assisted the victim's relatives.
Detectives are appealing for witnesses who might have observed the accused, identified as British citizen of Black ethnicity, and is believed to have been wearing grey athletic wear, dark headwear, trainers and rucksack.
Attack Site Details
The stabbing happened outside the Bullring shopping centre, opposite the main entrance to Birmingham New Street station.
Police said they were treating it as "unprovoked attack" with investigators stating efforts continue to determine the motive behind.
Witness Accounts
Shalini Doal, employed in the vicinity, described the emergency response after completing her shift around 10 PM on Friday.
She described the scene as "quite chaotic", adding that some of her colleagues heard loud disturbances at about 21:00.
"A lot of my colleagues use transit services, ride the tramline... our safety is at risk essentially, here in the city centre."
Ashley Birks, 25, resident of Stoke, mentioned visiting to Birmingham quite frequently visiting his partner resident there, and was concerned regarding the incident.
"It causes concern for my girlfriend," he said.
"She lacks transportation employed at all of the big music venues... and to think a totally random act occurred, understandably, it's horrible."
