Final Vessel of Large Activist Fleet Halted by Israeli Military
The last boat of the 42-vessel aid flotilla trying to penetrate the Israeli 16-year maritime blockade on the Gaza Strip has been halted by Israeli military units.
Mission Stoppage and Expulsion Processes
Based on official declarations, processes are currently in progress to deport the about nearly five hundred activists currently in detention. Among those held are multiple Italian parliamentarians who are expected to go back to their home country on a regular flight.
Final Ship Details
Recordings from Thursday night revealed the last boat being operated by half a dozen individuals, including multiple Turkish nationals, a Germany's national, and an Omani activist. The Australian captain of the ship stated via video call: "We have a group of very tough Turkish activists with us... we're intending to continue in our direction."
According to a mission spokesperson, the vessel had become part of the mission behind schedule after stormy conditions forced it to head back to harbor in the Catalan port.
Previous Precedent
The halt marks the nearest any unapproved relief attempt has gotten to the Gaza shoreline since Israeli authorities imposed its naval embargo in two thousand nine. The boat was stopped when it was estimated to be 42.5 sea miles from the shoreline.
Earlier efforts by protesters to penetrate the sea blockade have been prevented by force. In twenty ten, a dozen Turkey's activists were fatally wounded when Israeli military units stormed the lead ship as it spearheaded an aid flotilla toward the Gaza Strip.
